Florida's Frogs  & Toads

Florida is home to 28 species of native frogs and toads.  In addition, there are 4 non-native species living and breeding in Florida.  The following images and the accompanying identification tips will help you to identify Florida's native and non-native treefrogs (family Hylidae) and "true toads" (family Bufonidae).  Be sure to look at all of the images for additional identification tips.  You can also identify Florida's frogs and toads by their breeding calls - visit the USGS Frog Quiz webpage to hear these calls and test your knowledge.

Stay tuned for more images and identification tips for other Florida frogs and toads.  All images shown here are the property of Dr. Steve Johnson (unless otherwise noted), and should not be used without permission.

For help with identifying tadpoles, check out the descriptions and photos on the USGS Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative (ARMI) webpage.
